Hannah Bowen topped fellow City Councilor Todd Rotondo by about 600 votes within Beverly during Tuesday’s special primary.

BEVERLY, MA — Hannah Bowen declared victory in her race to become the Democratic nominee as the next state representative for the 6th Essex District Tuesday night after the Beverly At-Large City Councilor built a 600-vote advantage in the city over fellow City Councilor Todd Rotondo in the state primary.

Bowen will move on to face Republican nominee and former Beverly Chamber of Commerce President Medley Long in the special election on May 13.

According to unofficial results within Beverly — which represents the vast majority of the district that also includes Precinct 1 in Wenham — Bowen earned 2,644 votes to Rotondo’s 2,033. Rotondo won the Ward 1 that he represents on the Council by a 698 to 314 margin, but Bowen won the remaining districts in the city by varying margins.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Bowen posted on her social media campaign page on Tuesday night. “I’m looking forward to working with all of you as your Democratic nominee for state rep. On to the election May 13.”
